Some predictions for the 0-Eight

With the books now closed on 2007, I asked a handful of bloggers including Passion Of The Weiss, The Late Greats, Badminton Stamps, My Old Kentucky Blogand The Walrus to share their picks for 2008. Hold on.
*****
Emily from The Walrus picks:

Black Landlord - Philly's Black Landlord is here to remind you that rent is due on the 1st of the month, not the 5th. This new collaborative effort, fronted by Maxx of The Goats, includes a line-up of practiced musicians who have collectively toured the world and spent years recording music. An evening watching the Landlord is a guaranteed party and should have you, at the very least, bobbing your head to their funky, funny, hip-hop soul. Check them out at Black Landlord

Aunt Dracula - How often do you go to a show and see a werewolf on-stage making waffles? Every now and again, sure, but at an Aunt Dracula show be sure to bring your own syrup. These psychedelic space cadets channel the spastic energies of Animal Collective and the Swirlies, all the while maintaining an originally discombobulated sound that somehow makes sense. That, and they have a werewolf pouring batter into a waffle iron during their set! What more could one want?!

Mongo - Aunt Dracula

Philabuster from Badminton Stamps picks:

The Harlem Shakes - They were back in the recording studio this autumn after dropping their ridiculous Burning Birthdays EP earlier in the year. Fact of the matter is, these guys pump out hits at far too steady a pace not to catch some monster '08 momentum. Plus, the live show is killer. It's why we've brought them to play 'Stamps shows in Philly twice - we practice what we preach. Harlem Shakes myspace
Carpetbaggers - The Harlem Shakes

I Monster - This duo deliver as much sexystrangeness as Outkast in their hey, but unless you own the Shaun of The Dead Soundtrack or have googled the ad music in Absolut Vodka commercials, the name probably means nothing to you. That will all change when they drop their new album, the first since 2004 in 08. Hit their myspace and get on top of the instant classic "Lust For A Vampyr".

Who Is She - I Monster
*****
Duke of The Late Greats picks:

Priscilla Ahn is originally from Pennsylvania. Her debut album will be released on Blue Note (home of another folky-jazz-soul artist from PA Amos Lee). A sassier Norah Jones who can site Zach Braff as a fan.

Dream - Priscilla Ahn

Hanne Hukkelberg is a folk-tronica artist from Norway. Her sophomore album "Rykestrasse 68" will be released on March 8th. I hate to use the "her music is perfect for Grey's" statement, but it is true. Hanne's myspace

Ticking Bomb - Hanne Hukkelberg

*****
Passion Of The Weiss picks:

The Deadly Syndrome - This band exploded out of nowhere in 2007 to emerge as LA's best live band, ink a deal with Dim Mak and release a shockingly good debut. In 2008, look for them to tour the entire country and establish their national reputation. Deadly Syndrome's myspace

The Ship That Shot Itself - The Deadly Syndrome
Winter In You - The Deadly Syndrome

Clean Guns - Independent-minded, hard-as-nails, bruising Philadelphia hip-hop that's smarter than the average street rap but tougher than your favorite indie rapper. 2008 is going to a busy year for Clean Guns, with each member of the duo releasing solo albums, not to mention a Clean Guns mixtape slated for release in the coming weeks.

The Grind - Clean Guns featuring Triple Nickels & 2ew Gun Ciz
