Introducing The Sugar Oaks
2008-02-04 18:00:00 by Chris in Local Vertical

The Sugar Oaks are a Florida band who have developed over the past few years a truly singular sound-a warm, bittersweet sort of folk pop which draws from the golden-harmony sounds of 70s AM radio, The Band, George Harrison, solid R&B foundations; and also from the spirit of the many musics found scattered, like dusty rubies, more or less along the equator. They regularly open Florida dates for artists like Of Montreal, Voxtrot, Dr. Dog, the Hold Steady, John Vanderslice, Magnolia Electric Co., etc.

The Sugar Oaks are Eric Hayden & F.C. ”Field Commander” Belt (vocals, guitars, keys), and Matt Gersting & Jon Kraft (rhythm, bass, percussion). Their 5-track debut CD, Red Grapes In The City, was recorded in beautiful Clearwater, Florida; the music is equally beautiful.
