A month or so ago a Superman Revenge Squad download single came out as part of the God Is In The TV Zine singles club, and although it was a few months ago and therefore not quite cutting edge news – it’s definitely worth a mention because of the quality of the songs.

Superman Revenge Squad is actually one man from Croydon with an anti-folk heart and guitar lines that pick out the Arab Strap notes. Lyrically, he’s very captivating and in many of his songs the guitar drops away and you’re treated to a stream of words, which swing between sharp humour and a generally bleak outlook on life. He’s one of those musicians who has lyrics which makes members of the audience laugh during songs.

When Everyone’s Dead is a classic example of a Superman Revenge Squad song with rumbling guitars and lyrics about finding identity in the 1991 grunge explosion.

Hopefully there’ll be a physical release later in the year, but for now there’s loads more downloads and videos on his website.
