Zach Gill’s Stuff Available Now

Growing up in Saratoga, CA, early inspiration camefrom his grandmother Mabel, a church organist, andfather Chuck, an ex-rocker. Zach Gill’s future became clearduring high school when he sparked a lifelongfriendship with fellow musicians Dan Lebowitz andSteve Adams (aka LAG). Discovering the power ofperformance, the trio began playing jazz, power-pop-rock,bluegrass and everything in between. The group evolved into a variety of projects beforeemerging as the Animal Liberation Orchestra. Formed in1998, ALO has been Gill’s primary musical vehicle overthe last decade. The band’s deep repertoire of materialhas endeared legions of fans with Gill’s powerfulvocals giving it all a soulful stamp. Best known for liveprowess, the band has also released three criticallyacclaimed albums; most recently 2007’s, Roses andClover.

In 2005, he joined forces with college pal and emergingsuperstar, Jack Johnson. Accepting an invitation to joinJack’s band, Gill diversified the group’s trademarksound with his multi-instrumental zest, vocals, anddancing skills. While ALO and Jack Johnson continue totour, Gill has certainly been keeping busy. Recently hecollaborated with Aimee Mann and Jerry Harrison(Talking Heads) on a composition entitled, “At the Edgeof the World” for the Paramount Pictures documentary,”An Arctic Tale.” His music was also featured in the”Curious George” film and soundtrack alongsideJohnson.

On July, 29 Gill released his eponymous debutsolo project with Johnson’s Brushfire Records. But it hardly sounds like a debut. From the moment youpress play and hear the opener “Family” it’s apparentthat Gill is an effortlessly strong performer: one whoknows how to craft and deliver easygoing pop with alarge dose of buoyant soul. Think Leon Russell or LevonHelm if they grew up near the beach, listening to a littleBob Marley (”Don’t Touch My Stuff”). With uniqueinstrumentation and a playful spirit, Zack Gill carries ona tradition of true musicians who revel in playing andcreating, whether on the beach, on the road, or with hiskids.
