In flying guitars, breakneck speed vocals, and a general British dance floor rock flavor, The Author break out in their Taxi single. Not quite as out-there as the Klaxons (though one explosive guitar climax sounds a bit too close to “From Atlantis to Interzone” to be a coincidence) and much like The Arctic Monkey’s “Brainstrom,” “Taxi” attacks hard and only relents for a chance to let vocalist Christian Silver (with a name like that you have to either be a rock star or go into porn…or something) show off his lyrical chops—which turns out to be a slightly more baritone version of Kele Okereke from Bloc Party. The Author (out of Jersey) have enjoyed increasing success of late, playing with some big-name acts like Kasabian and Super Furry Animals, and hopefully will have an EP or full-length with more of this quality dance-rock British gold. Much like label-mates Computer Club, Taxi fits in on the dance-floor or in your car on the way to work, and while it may not be the deepest of stuff, just try to get the melody out of your head.
