On this date in 1979, Spizzenergi released their second single, "Where's Captain Kirk?". It was backed by "Amnesia". It was their fourth single overall as the band liked to change their name almost annually. Neither track appeared on an album until they released their third album, Spizzhistory, which was a compilation. When the U.K. indie chart was first created on New Year's Day, 1980, Spizzenergi had the first number one song on that chart and it was "Where's Captain Kirk?". It stayed there for eight consecutive weeks. During their career, they were known as Athletico Spizz 80, Spizzenergi, Spizzoil, The Spizzles, Spizzsexual, Spizzorbit, Spizzorwell and Spizzenergi:2. The English punk/new wave band effectively disbanded in 1982 but has gotten together on and off since then (under various names).
