Dazed and Confused Mag Knows Portland (And Has an E*Rock Mixtape to Prove it!)
2008-01-09 20:45:43 by CASEY JARMAN in local Cut

portland life I’m not so hip. I hadn’t heard of Dazed & Confused, the UK magazine that calls itself “perhaps the most influential monthly magazine in the world.” Not sure about that, but the magazine’s website, Dazed Digital, is certainly hip enough to dig its claws into Portland and come out with. In an ongoing series of posts dubbed “Portland Special,” D&C has thrown up the following awesomeness:

1. The craziest Portland mixtape ever, by E*Rock and DJ 1996 Olympixx. I seriously can’t tell you how crazy this half-hour long mix really is, but you will have “Apache” stuck in your head, and a better appreciation for Portland artists new and old. It tears me up a bit to hear the Shaky Hands slowly blending into Panther and Chromatics blending in to Nu Shooz. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll rep yo city! Take the link here, or listen at the end of the post. Bad azz.

2. A quick interview with Valentine from Get Hustle, who reps Danava and Silentist, among other PDX artists. Read it!

3. Another interview with Parenthetical Girls’ frontman and ex-Mercury music guy Zac Pennington, in which he reps Au and affordable housing.

4. And a final interview with everyone’s favorite talkative electropop diva, Khaela Maricich (the most influential monthly magazine in the world can’t seem to get that spelling correct!), in which she reps Honey Owens and nature! Read it here!

Is there more to come? D&C says they’ve prepared a ‘fortnight’ worth of coverage. So as soon as I crack the code behind their fucked-up old Shakespeare slang, I’ll post any extra links that arise here. Until then, hail Britannia!
