We’ve haven’t had a discussion in a while, so I thought up this question all by myself. XD Out of all the Asian music you listen to, which do you like the most? J-Pop, K-Pop or C-Pop?
You may already know that my choice is either J-Pop or K-Pop since I hardly ever upload C-Pop music. C-Pop music is good, but no one, other than Jay Chou, has really hooked me into it. I don’t understand any Asian language, but I do find Chinese songs…complicated, I guess you could say.
So, that already narrrows it down to two - the mortal enemies (not really, I just said that) J-Pop & K-Pop…which musical genre do I find most appealing?…
J-Pop >>>>>>>>>> K-Pop
Okay, maybe I’m exagerrating a bit…
J-Pop > K-Pop
^ Yeah, that’s a bit more like it. IMO, K-Pop music wasn’t at its’ peak after BoA* left the scene forever - of course, I’m excluding SE7EN’s two albums & the arrival of BIG BANG in 2006. XD In 2007, it became alot better w/ the arrivals of new artists & genres / styles of music. No same ol’ same ol’.
But I LOVE J-Pop. I love K-Pop, but I LOVE J-Pop (< see the diffrence? XD) Why, you may or may not ask. Wellzzzzzzzzz…
1) Compared to Japan, Korea has ZERO Rock Artists…
Really, if someone asked me “name five Korean Rock artists,” it would take me some time to think of them! Korea is predominately R&B / Hip-Hop music (& ballads, but it’s seasonal lol), so it makes alot of sense. Alot of Indie bands are K-Rock artists. Also, there’s no Korean bands like UVERworld or BACK-ON, where it’s Rock, but also a mixture of several musical genres. THAT MAKES ME SAD! It’s like, “C’mon! You guys are known the most for Urban music in Asia, why don’t you throw in that greatness w/ some Rock music, & make a HIT!”
2) Korean Ballads Are Harder To Get Into…
I’m not that huge of a Ballad fan; I like LOUD things, usually. Also, I find it harder getting into a Korean Ballad rather than a Japanese Ballad. Could it be cuz they’re bland? I doubt it, they’re known for them, & I know that people aren’t just lying to me. I’ve investigated, & I can’t find a reason why. Maybe years of listening to Ayu’s ballads did that to me (hmmmm…)
3) No More Queens of K-Pop!
Okay, BoA* has left the building! Ivy re-invented herself, & caused her to become a queen for a short time, but now she’s becoming a “ballad singer” for her 3rd album (she has a voice fit for a ballad, but I rather hear more upbeat songs from her!)…And Hyori…well, I really liked her 2nd album, but she seems to be fading. All the new female artists (such as Joo, Sunha, & the “A Fox” woman I forgot the name of, sorry) aren’t really that great…esp. performing live.
4) Techno / Electronica Music?
In K-Pop, there is Banana Girl…and…yeah, that’s all I can think of.
5) More Variety in J-Pop
Pretty much a sum up of 1 & 4 - K-Pop pretty much is R&B, Hip-Hop, Ballad, & (Cute) Pop songs (although Moogadang’s “OAO,” BIG BANG’s “Koh Jid Mal,” & Ivy’s “Sonata of Temptation” were pretty unique-sounding). Whereas in Japan, it isn’t so plain - for example, RIP SLYME’s “Sharp Shooter.” Yeah…that’s how crazy J-Pop can get. LOL!
BUT, I will say that K-Pop music does have some advantages over J-Pop, such as…
1) You know your Hip-Hop…
Well, I disagree w/ the saying that Japanese Rap is horrible, but Korean Rap is better. Other than KREVA & Verbal (m-flo), I can’t match any J-Rap artists to K-Rap. Gawd…absolutely no one can touch 1TYM & BIG BANG, honestly…well, maybe KREVA can. XD
2) Better Boybands / Girlbands
Honestly, K-Pop can put 9-13 members in one group & make it work. They all dance (& sometimes sing) excellent; they’re all doing it in unison, WTH? HOW! But really, K-Pop girlbands don’t annoy me like most J-Pop girlbands do (yes, I pretty much don’t like the Hello! Project gang…I can listen to it, but it annoys me for some reason >_<). Boybands trick people by having hot members in them (XD), hooking fangirls in - this pretty much where K-Pop & J-Pop boybands are on the same page. JE boybands (cuz I can’t really think of a Japanese boyband outside of JE, except EXILE) are great, really! But not as great as K-Pop boybands.
3) K-Pop OWNS Dancing!
Yeah, I think K-Pop artists are better performing live than J-Pop artists. For one, I actually think because they perform the whole song & do it more than five times is what makes them better dancers or performers in general.
But that’s mainly what I think about them. And if it seemed like I was picking on J-Pop or K-Pop or C-Pop, I’ll assure you, I wasn’t. Just giving my own honest views (hopefully not sounding like a complete idiot). In conclusion…
1) J-Pop
2) K-Pop
3) C-Pop
So, which do you perfer?
