The Creative Music Guild and the Portland Art Center Present: Wade Matthews & Stephane Rives Duo w/ JP Jenkins & Matt Hannafin

Rives/Matthews duo joined by JP Jenkins & Matt Hannafin at 8PM on Thursday, February 14th, 2008 at the The Portland Art Center at 32 NW 5th Street in Portland. Tickets are $12.00 for the general public, $9.00 for CMG members and students with ID. This is an all ages show.

Wade Matthews - software synthesis via laptop
Stephane Rives - soprano sax
JP Jenkins - guitar, electronics
Matt Hannafin - percussion

Stéphane Rives is a French soprano saxophonist who is considered a master of extended technique. His solo release, Fibres, features the use of overtones at the top range for his horn, whistling squeals, multiphonics, triple tonguing and circular breathing. He has been called a revolutionary player in recognition of his accomplishments.

Wade Matthews is an American composer, musician and author who has been living in Spain for nearly 20 years. He has appeared at festivals around the world performing on bass clarinet, alto flute and electronics. Matthews has appeared on 12 discs, two of which are solo releases. Matthews conducts workshops on improvisation and has written several articles about improvisation and other arts for various publications. His many collaborators include John Butcher, Peter Kowald, and Jack Wright among many others.

The Stéphane Rives and Wade Matthews duo promises to provide a night of exploratory music that will appeal to experimental music fans as well as those interested in outstanding musicianship.
At this show. the touring musicians will be joined by local players: JP Jenkins is a Portland guitarist who plays in Cex Fucx, Presents! and Ghosting. Matt Hannafin is a recent transplant from NYC where he played in various groups including traditional Iranian music ensembles and collaborations with Nate Wooley and Brian Moran.
