I so want to hate this song, for many, and varied reasons, but just can’t bring myself to. Every time I hear it, I try and fight the urge to tap my foot and sing along, but ultimately fail in my mission.
Why do I want to hate it, you may ask? Well, for starters, it’s Kid Rock, and that name just conjures up a cheesy rap/rock hybrid from hell that I thought we’d moved on from. Then there’s the use of samples, which I’m not a big fan of. And did I mention? It’s bloody Kid Rock!

Okay, so my secret is out, I’m not a fan of Kid Rock, and in actual fact, that is the only reason I wanted to hate this song. Even the samples are good, with Sweet Home Alabama being a classic which deserves a new generation of fans.
But I don’t hate the song, in spite of Kid Rock being the guy behind it. I actually quite like it, and don’t instantly turn my nose up every time it comes on to the radio.
The song is a mash-up, with samples from Warren Zevon’s Werewolves of London and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama mixed to great effect. It does kind of make me think that Kid Rock is getting the glory for other artists work, but I can’t take this one away from him.
The video is pretty dire though, showing everything I don’t want to see in a promo: Kid Rock showing off in a boat, Kid Rock cavorting with a blonde who looks suspiciously like Pamela Anderson, and just Kid Rock in general. There, I feel better now.
