This week's Martha Wainwright CD giveaway contest was one of the best QBiM's ever had, as it generated the most entries. Thanks to all who entered, and please be sure to keep your eyes open for more great contests in the future. Congratulations to Brad from Fairlawn, Ohio, who'll be getting I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too in the mail very soon.

The road to winning this year's Polaris Music Prize starts by making the long list of nominees, and for the first time, music lovers get to know exactly who's on that list. The final short list is going to be announced on July 7 at Toronto's Drake Hotel, and will be made up of 10 of the following long listed albums. I'm cranked to see a couple of local artists make the list (Attack In Black and City And Colour), and many of the bands have graced QBiM's pages in the last year.
The long list is:
The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain (Paper Bag)
Attack In Black - Marriage (Dine Alone)
Black Mountain - In The Future (Jagjaguwar) Black Mountain "Tyrants"
Born Ruffians - Red, Yellow and Blue (Warp)
Buck 65 - Situation (Warner / Strange Famous)
Basia Bulat - Oh, My Darling (Hardwood)
Cadence Weapon - Afterparty Babies (Upper Class)
Cancer Bats - Hail Destroyer (Distort)
Caribou - Andorra (Merge) Caribou "Melody Day"
City And Colour - Bring Me Your Love (Dine Alone)
Constantines - Kensington Heights (Arts & Crafts)
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (Last Gang)
Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams (Merge)
Fred Eaglesmith - Tinderbox (A Major Label)
Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers (Zoe Records)
Christine Fellows - Nevertheless (Six Shooter)
Gatineau - Gatineau (D.E.P.)
Hayden - In Field And Town (Hardwood)
Veda Hille - This Riot Life (Ape House)
HILOTRONS - Happymatic (Kelp)
Holy Fuck - LP (Young Turks)
Islands - Arm's Way (Anti-)
Karkwa - Le volume du vent (Audiogram)
Corb Lund - Horse Solider! Horse Soldier! (Stony Plain)
The New Pornographers - Challengers (Matador)
Pas Chic Chic - Au Contraire (Semprini Records)
Sandro Perri - Tiny Mirrors (Constellation)
Plants And Animals - Parc Avenue (Secret City)
Ghislain Poirier - No Ground Under (Ninja Tune)
Protest The Hero - Fortress (Underground Operations)
Justin Rutledge - Man Descending (Six Shooter)
Sadies - New Seasons (Yep Roc)
Shad - The Old Prince (Black Box Recording)
Socalled - Ghetto Blaster (Sony)
Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War (Arts & Crafts)
Tegan And Sara - The Con (Universal)
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band – 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons
(Constellation)
Two Hours Traffic - Little Jabs (Bumstead)
The Weakerthans - Reunion Tour (Anti-)
Wintersleep - Welcome To The Night Sky (Labwork Music)
I'm not one to wager on outcomes of contests like this because I usually bet with my heart instead of my head, which isn't always a wise choice if you're in the market to make a few bucks. However, if i had to narrow it down to 10, my choices would be:
The Acorn, Attack In Black, Basia Bulat, Cadence Weapon, Crystal Castles, Corb Lund, The New Pornographers, Justin Rutledge, Stars, and Two Hours Traffic. But that's just my two cents. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the short list is announced, and you can bet your bottom dollar that through the summer QBiM will be highlighting the Polaris nominees.
