This is one of the better Alan Parsons Project albums, wait... No, this is a Rick Wakeman album! Sure
sounds like Alan Parsons Project to me; (too) many vocalists involved on different tracks (both male and
female), very well produced, melodious songs, weakly conceptual, some repetitive instrumental passages,
not very progressive overall. Sounds like a perfect description of an Alan Parsons Project album.
The drums on some songs are horrible, Angel Of Time probably being the worst. The whole album just
screams 80's at you. Some of the lyrics are extremely cheesy and unimaginative; You know, there's
nothing quite as nice as ice, nothing quite as nice as ice... What? There's nothing quite as nice as the bass
guitar solo on this song though (well, there is actually, but it’s nice enough).
The electric guitars are mostly absent or silent (Slaveman has a nice guitar solo though). But more electric
guitars had been nice.
However, I would lie if I said that I don't enjoy this music!
If all the songs had been sung by the same vocalist (Ashley Holt, for example) and the drums had been
better, and the electric guitars allowed more space, then this would be a much stronger album. As it
stands however, this is only for Wakeman fans (and perhaps for Alan Parsons fans?)

Mr. Monkey Mafia, Junior Cartier, or just plain and simple Jon Carter – whatever the name, he’s been one of our favourite DJs since back in the days of the legendary Heavenly Social parties in London. From his earlier days engineering for drum & bass producers like Trace & MC Rhyme Time at pioneering label No U-Turn, through his residency at the Social alongside the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Norman Cook and Andy Weatherall, to his seminal work in the big beat era for labels like Wall Of Sound through to more recent studio forays for the likes of Tim Sheridan’s VeryVeryWrongIndeed label, he’s remained a consistent force in dance music for many moons now.

As for DJing – well, if you’ve ever seen him play, you’ll know that he is one of the most sure-fire dancefloor destroyers in the game, delivering a bruising selection of house, techno and electro in one slick, intense package. Enjoy his block-rockin’ mix and be sure to check him out at a club near you soon.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
The last one with the Superstition sample on it. A new style!
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
As ever, hopefully diverse rhythms that aim at the butt.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Had a great one in Dubai recently, but never had sex on the beach

What have you got coming up? (PLUG PLUG PLUG!) More tunes out under the name Gentleman’s Agreement. The next one with Andy Chatterley called ‘Resist’. And gigs at Cream on Boxing day, and Dubai again on NYE. There’s a whole load of dancehall flavoured tunes for next year too. Again under Gentleman’;s Agreement with Alex Blanco.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Peace on Earth, and goodwill to all men. Oh, hang on. That’s next month isn’t it!

This album's got a really rich vibe -- one that echoes Bill Withers and Terry Callier at points -- especially in the way that Thomas mixes acoustic guitar in with his vocals. Rhythms are sometimes spacey, but often more conventionally soulful -- not mainstream, but not too broken or skittish either -- and some of the best moments have a gentleness that's really refreshing, one that really fits the acoustic soul of the whole production. However, a broader, more underground approach appealed to his sensibilities. He set about combining the quality of 60s/70s soul/funk with the more contemporary sounds - a fusion of classic vocal hooks and syncopated rhythms held together by beautifully crafted song structures.

Ashleys influences have yielded a unique vocal sound that is hard to pigeonhole, and with "A Tale Of Two Cities" Ashley utilizes all of his experiences too, from his time on the burgeoning London scene to the sophisticated, Gallic charms of his current Parisian home.

Titles include "Spotlight", "The Same Love That Made Me Laugh", "Find Me", "A Tale Of Two Cities", "Merry Go Round", "God Given", and "Maybe Is Maybe".

* Another Great Timbateamz Post *

All track info is in the comment section..

Liverpool, whose American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett stand two months away from the expiry date of loans which could force them to sell up, are the most financially vulnerable club in the land, the Premier League's most experienced football financier declared yesterday.

Keith Harris, of Seymour Harris, who brought Roman Abramovich to Chelsea and is currently seeking buyers for Everton and Newcastle United, said he had doubts about whether Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Wachovia, buffeted by the worldwide financial crisis, were either willing or able to refinance the loans which are currently propping up Liverpool.

Speaking at the International Football Arena conference in Zurich, Harris said of Britain's debt-laden clubs: "The one that worries me is Liverpool. The principal lenders [RBS and Wachovia] are two of those that have suffered. Whether they want to lend it again or not, they may not be able to." Without fresh investment, said Harris, the club's joint owners could be forced to sell players. If neither refinancing, nor new financial stakeholders can be found, the banks must consider whether to repossess the club. "It's a brave banker that would repossess Liverpool Football Club," he said.

By the indicator which bankers judge the financial health of the club – the ratio of operating profit against interest payments due on their debt – Harris is right. Newcastle, one of the clubs routinely cited as financially troubled, have had their debt removed by Mike Ashley, and West Ham, despite Sheffield United's impending legal suit over the Carlos Tevez affair and the damage caused to its owners by the problems of the Icelandic financial system, make almost enough profit to cover their interest twice.

Bankers begin to get uncomfortable when profit is less than twice the interest payments and Liverpool's profit barely covers the huge interest payments with which Hicks and Gillett have saddled the club. "If their's was a normal business they would be financially in the intensive care ward," one financier said yesterday.

Harris' comments comes amid new hints that Hicks and Gillett are looking to sell Liverpool – despite their fantastic start to the season – before the 25 January deadline by which RBS will decide whether to allow them a six-month extension on the refinancing arrangement they struck last January. Gillett steadfastly refused to discuss the sale issue in London two weeks ago during an interview in which he suggested that he was planning new sporting investment in India.

It is believed that a prospective Middle East investor – unrelated to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai – walked away from discussions to buy the club three weeks ago, during which they tabled an offer believed to be no better than the £500m Dubai International Capital (DIC) have bid in the past. Sources suggest that the prospective buyer was told that the club's projected profit for this financial year was £45m. Most informed estimates would put the likely figure at nearer to £30m at best. It is understood that the DIC offer still stands, months after the Americans walked away from it.

In the current climate, with Hicks and Gillett too cash-strapped to progress the Stanley Park stadium which is integral to their development plans for Liverpool, it is difficult to see how the pair can afford to offer Rafael Benitez the improved five-year contract which he is seeking. Hicks has told the Liverpool manager that talks can get under way, though one interpretation of his willingness to go public on that fact is that the Americans are looking to establish a sense of stability which would help any sale.

RBS are currently being lobbied by the Spirit of Shankly supporters group not to allow the six-month extension. It is unclear whether their move into public ownership as a result of the credit crunch will affect their willingness to allow an extension. No government would welcome the attention which a refusal to extend would bring.

Harris was equally gloomy about Everton, who, he said, were proving difficult to sell. "There is no progress at all," Harris said "The demographics of Liverpool as an area are not hugely compelling. It is not a very wealthy city and Everton share the city with another club which arguably has been in the vanguard for the last decade.

"They both have a stadium to build, so the economics need a lot of looking at whereas Newcastle is a one-club city with a fabulous stadium."

Never, said Harris, had it been more difficult to find the right buyers. "It's not a question of price negotiation – it's should we? People are wondering if now is the time to spend." Speaking after a private address to football financiers in Zurich, he re-iterated that there were still two genuine offers in the pipeline for Newcastle but refused to name them.

Full House is the fith studio album from UK folk/ rock act Fairport Convention. The album was
recorded after the departure of two of the most prolific members of the band. Female vocalist
Sandy Denny and bassist Ashley Hutchings were both heavily involved in the songwriting and
re-arrangement of the traditional folk songs for their fourth album Liege & Lief. The band
chose not to replace Sandy Denny with another female vocalist and took on the lead vocal
duties themselves but Ashley Hutchings was replaced by new bassist Dave Pegg ( who would much
later become a member of Jethro Tull).
The overall style didn´t change much as the music is still basically folk/ rock. The male
vocals are not very strong though and I greatly miss Sandy Denny if I have to be honest.
Violinist Dave Swarbrick is even more dominant on Full House than he was on Liege & Lief and
IMO in a bad way. The mood of the album really suffers from the very traditional folky edge.
Liege & Lief also had a very traditional folk sound but there were strong emotions involved
on that album. That´s totally lacking here and the only track I partially enjoy is Sloth. The
two instrumentals Diry Linen and Flatback Caper are terrible IMO. If you like traditional
folk this might suit your taste but I dislike this kind of music.
The musicianship is good but as I mentioned above the lead vocals are really weak and it
sounds like they needed a bit more practice before they should have recorded them.
The production is not as good as it was on Liege & Lief and of course this doesn´t help the
music to shine either.
Full House is a great disappointment after the excellent Liege & Lief and I can only reward
the album with 2 stars. I´m simply not entertained and the folky edge sometimes embarres me.
I was really expecting more than this from Fairport Convention.

Liege & Lief is the fourth studio album from UK folk/ rock act Fairport Convention and it´s
the third album the band would release in 1969. It´s also the third and last album with Sandy
Denny ( She would return a couple of years later, but that´s another story). The first being
What We Did On Our Holidays and the second being Unhalfbricking. Liege & Lief was written and
recorded during the summer of 1969. Producer Joe Boyd has installed the band in a large
English country house and the band had set up their rehearsal gear in one of the large
downstairs livingrooms. In the spring of 1969 the band had been struck by tragedy when
drummer Martin Lamble and Richard Thompson´s girlfriend Jeannie Taylor were killed in a car
crash and the band was at that time unsure if they wished to continue. After a while the band
got the pieces together and set out to record their next album. A new drummer Dave Mattacks
and Violinist Dave Swarbrick ( who had guested on Unhalfbricking) were added to the lineup.
It was decided that they would start from scratch to prevent them from being reminded about
the dead too often. This means that many of the songs on Liege & Lief are traditional british
folk songs which has been re-arranged by the band. In fact only three out of the eight songs
on the original release were written by members of the band and that´s come All Ye, Farewell,
Farewell and Crazy Man Michael. That doesn´t mean that the music has changed that much since
Unhalfbricking IMO. Unhalfbricking was also pretty folky if you ask me.
The difference is the mood on Liege & Lief which I think reflects the sad mood the members
must have been in at the time. There are some truly beautiful songs on the album and I´ll
mention the powerful Matty Groves as my favorite, but also songs like The Deserter, Tam Lin
and Raynardine are excellent. Only Medley : The Lark In The Morning/ Rakish Paddy/
Foxhunter’s Jig/ Toss The Feathers is below standard and that´s just because it doesn´t suit
my taste. I just can´t stand the dirtkickin`, leather jiggin` violin led piece.
The two bonus tracks which has been added to the CD re-release are also great songs. I
especially enjoy Quiet Joys Of Brotherhood. Fairport Convention´s version of The End.
The musicianship is excellent. Sandy Denny is a strong female vocalist. She really gave
Fairport Convention their identity in that period. I also enjoy the great interplay between
the two guitarists.
The production is really well done. It suits the music perfectly. Warm and pleasant.
Liege & Lief is a notch better than Unhalfbricking IMO and deserves a 4 star rating. I can´t
claim that this is music I listen to very often but this exact album ( and the debut) has
something special that can´t be taught or practised. It´s got real emotions. Out of the three
Sandy Denny led albums this is by far my favorite from Fairport Convention. Sadly Sandy and
bassist Ashley Hutchings would leave the band shortly after the recording of the album.

So how the little known freak folkers in State Bird got Mary Kate (or Ashley?) Olsen into this video from album highlight “I Saw The Light” is beyond me. With or without her cameo though, this video looks like fun, what with a bunch of hairy shirtless men dancing around, sometimes dressed as ghosts and with random animated monsters flashing behind them. Not quite as weird as this one, but close. And what a great song!

MP3 :: I Saw The Light
(from Mostly Ghostly.
